You will be aware of the University communication titled ‘Professional Services Organisational Redesign – update’ issued on 07 May.
AUCU wishes to make it absolutely clear that we have not been meaningfully consulted as part of this process.
In total, AUCU was afforded only 15 minutes to discuss these proposals with the management representatives involved in the Professional Services (PS) reorganisation.
We are particularly disappointed by the statement:
“We recently held a period of formal consultation with trade unions and directly impacted staff.”
In the interests of transparency, we have set out below a timeline of what actually occurred during the so‑called ‘consultation’.
Timeline of Events
17 February
It was agreed that a PS AUCU representative would be invited to a meeting with management to discuss the PS reorganisation.
This meeting did take place, but AUCU was not invited.
16 March
AUCU raised concerns regarding:
- the pace of the consultation, and
- the establishment of a JCCRA sub‑group after only 15 minutes of discussion.
AUCU did not receive a response.
22 April
A rescheduled JCCRA sub‑group meeting was organised on a strike day.
30 April
Consultation was deemed complete on a strike day.
Our Position
The lack of meaningful consultation is regrettably becoming a recurring theme. This is particularly concerning given the scale and volume of change currently being undertaken across the University.
AUCU will continue to challenge these processes and to fight for open, transparent, and genuinely consultative engagement with staff and their union representatives.
